Path to Resilience

Don’t we all want to have a successful life with less struggles and more happiness and contentment. Each one of us strives for it and achieve intermediate milestones and move to the next ones. How do we deal with difficult situations that change our life? Maybe loss of a loved one, job loss, terrorist attack, recession, natural calamity, pandemic etc. Sudden reaction to such events are always a flood of emotions and disturbing that leads to a feeling of despair and helplessness.

We all face these stressful situations and eventually come out being stronger. But how do we train ourselves to overcome these situations and be ready to face them head on.

We may come across many factors to motivate ourselves and travel the path of courage. According to me, the most important factor is having a support system of family and friends who stand by you in such times. But is that enough? No!!

  1. Identifying your strengths and focus on it to make your journey easier
  2. Determining a positive attitude and pushing towards the new change
  3. Weigh your problems and try to focus on problem solving skills
  4. Capacity to work on your strong feelings and Impulses

Developing Resilience is a journey, a personal one that each one of us must traverse. Some of my thoughts based on my personal learnings on what can help us travel the Road to Resilience.

  1. Hopeful Outlook –  I motivate myself by being hopeful in life and think about things that brings positivity and joy. Hopeful to have amazing food as I’m a foodie, hopeful to have a futuristic and optimistic approach in life to achieve all tangible and intangible things in life.
  2. Having Perspective– Having a perspective of my own has led to a direction which has made me more independent in my thoughts and ability to take decisions. It gives you an outlook towards life and confidence to deal with problems.
  3. Pamper Yourself- Feeling good to make others feel good. I pamper yourself when you get a chance.
  4. Creating Opportunities– Looking for broadening our horizon and working towards opportunity is essential to grow. Opportunity can lead us to grow or fail. We learn from the failures and make our next opportunity better for us and work towards antelope.
  5. Change is Inevitable– Accepting change is hard but it’s bound to happen. Once we accept certain goals might be unattainable, we are good to accept and focus on new avenues.
  6. Make space for New– This is so hard for me. Making space for new as I cling to old memory, old friends, my sense of belonging.
  7. Be open to Crisis– As change is the way of life, crisis too is bound to come.
  8. Broaden your Network– Personal or professional, making relationships is god’s way of blessing us, is my belief.
  9. Open to Attainable Goal– I try to be realistic in approach and move towards goal. Over committing makes us demotivated. Be consistent in achieving your goals and move towards it.
  10. Decisive Action – Its decision time to move forward. Detaching from the problems and not facing them will lead us to wrong decisions and wrong path in life. It’s important to overcome the problems and we can de-stress ourselves eventually.

I am a strong believer of being resilient by being consistent in life, persevere and believe in my dream. In the journey of practicing resilience, I have gained insight and courage to overcome the crisis and stressful surroundings coming in the way. Moreover, this helped me motivating my family, friends, and closed ones in gaining strength. It’s important to have a close ecosystem/ support system that can help you during the ups and downs.

I had an opportunity to live and work in three continents and meet with people from diverse cultures and as a person to manage change. I have learnt to prepare myself to abide by the surrounding and accept the challenge to work towards the goal.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and suggestions, because there are no right or wrong answers and the main intent for Scintimuli is to learn from each other and grow.
